Steve Means began his involvement in church leadership in the mid 80’s. In 1991, he began to attend The Vineyard Church and very quickly began to feel that this is where he would find his true calling. He participated with worship teams in Dallas and Cincinnati before being asked to come on staff with the Mason Vineyard in January, 1995. Steve has served as an associate pastor in various roles in the church since then, but his passion has always been for the worship music of the church. He has written and performed several original songs.
Steve’s wedding ministry began in 2002, and since that time, he has performed over 400 ceremonies. Steve’s philosophy, like that of the Vineyard, is that you can show God’s love to anyone. He has done weddings for people of many different church backgrounds, including Christians, Catholics, Jews, Russian Orthodox and even Hindu. But because Steve feels that this is an extension of his ministry, he has done many ceremonies for couples with no church background or affiliation. “You can plant God’s seeds in any kind of soil” is the way he puts it.
Steve does many of his weddings at his church in Mason, but does many more outside of the church. “Places like the Manor House, Receptions, and the Savannah Center have made weddings so much easier for the couples and their guests”. He also says that the ones he enjoys the most are the ceremonies held in unusual locations. I’ve done weddings at Paul Brown Stadium, in parks all over Cincinnati, by rivers and streams, in backyards, at The Golden Lamb and in museums.” Steve says that as long as the location has some significance to the couple, he thinks it is a great place for a wedding! He also said not to mention this, but he has NEVER been rained out!
Steve loves the wedding ministry because he is still absolutely in love with his bride of over 37 years. Steve and his wife Jackie, have four children and six grandchildren. They were 17 and 19 when they got married. Steve was in the Marines, and he says they have had all the struggles and problems that most couples experience. “Sometimes, when things get tough, it feels like you’re hanging on by the last thread. But believe me, love is always worth hanging on to.” As Steve often quotes from first Corinthians in his ceremonies, “faith, hope and love abide these three, but the greatest is love.”
